The Fort Hood Area Dolphins (FHD) are a year round USA Swimming team. We compete in two distinct seasons. Short Course season runs from September to March and competitions are held in 25 yard pools. The Long Course season is from May-August with meets usually held in 50 meter (Olympic size) pools.
The majority of our meets are in Temple, Austin and San Antonio. Championship meets are sometimes held in Corpus Christi, Houston and Brownsville.
Competing in meets is not a requirement of membership, but is highly encouraged. All swimmers must join USA Swimming within 5 days of joining the team. This allows you to participate in USA Swimming sanctioned events, provides insurance coverage and a subscription to "SPLASH" magazine.
We offer a ladder system for our swimmers. Meaning they move up by their abilities. As they improve on technique and endurance they will be moved to the next lane.
All swimmers practice every weeknight for 90 minutes, 5:30 to 7:00 and most attend at least one swim meet per month.
The Masters Program for swimmers 19 and older focuses on the needs of the swimmer. Preparing for triathlons, fitness swimming or still competing. We work with your goals.
Although we do not have an attendance requirement we recommend attending at least 3 practices per week to maintain fitness. Swimmers who are interested in serious competitive swimming should attend all practices.
